Global sukuk issuance set for H2 recovery as GCC issuers return

Global sukuk issuance is expected to recover gradually in the second half of 2026 as Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issuers return to the market. Volumes are likely to range between $140 billion and $150 billion, according to a new analysis by Moody’s.

Issuance in the first half of 2026 rose 2 percent to about $130 billion, driven by an increase in short-term issuance and corporate activity. This helped offset declines in long-term issuance by sovereigns and financial institutions.

Moody’s noted that domestic markets in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia are increasingly important sources of supply, supporting longer-term growth in the Islamic finance sector.
