Airfares between the UAE and India are set to come under fresh upward pressure after IndiGo announced a hike in fuel charges across its international network. Starting from 12:01 am on October 6, passengers booking flights between the GCC, including the UAE, and India will be subject to a revised fuel charge of INR 5,500 (approximately Dh215) per sector, regardless of the flight distance.
India’s largest airline attributed the fee hike to a sustained and sharp rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) costs, which surged over 14 percent month-on-month amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. IndiGo noted that with fuel costs reaching some of the highest levels seen in the past decade, the adjustment was a necessary but “measured” response to offset intense pressure on its operating structure while minimizing the burden on travelers.
This latest fee adjustment follows a series of previous increases in the fuel component of IndiGo’s fares earlier this year, alongside recent hikes in ancillary fees such as excess baggage. With the busy festive season approaching—including Dussehra and Diwali—travelers can expect UAE-India airfares to remain elevated amid strong demand and ongoing capacity constraints.
