Kuwait issues Amiri Decree amending Nationality Law with new electronic certificates

Kuwait has issued Amiri Decree-Law No. 79 of 2026, which amends several provisions of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law.

A major update includes the introduction of electronic Kuwaiti nationality certificates, which will hold the same legal validity as traditional paper certificates. Furthermore, the decree stipulates that citizens who acquired Kuwaiti nationality by naturalization will not have the right to vote, run for office, or be appointed to parliamentary bodies.
