Domestic violence cases registered with the Public Prosecution in Kuwait fell by 36 percent during the first six months of implementing the new Domestic Violence Protection Law, Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait announced on Saturday. Between March 15 and September 13, 2026, authorities recorded 646 cases compared to 1,011 cases during the same period in 2025, marking a decrease of 365 incidents.
Al-Sumait attributed the decline to Decree-Law No. 11 of 2026, a 31-article framework enacted in mid-March that prohibits waivers, reconciliation, or pardons in specified domestic and sexual abuse offences. While describing the downturn as a positive indicator of the law’s deterrence, the minister emphasized that family protection remains a vital national responsibility and stated that the ministry will continue assessing crime metrics to refine legal protections.
