Prince Faisal bin Salman, chairman of the King Abdulaziz Foundation (Darah), has launched a scientific program in Riyadh dedicated to preserving and publishing the works of pioneering Saudi historians.
The initiative debuted with a new edition of “Unwan Al-Majd fee Tarikh Najd” (A Title of Glory in the History of Najd), a landmark historical text by Othman Bin Abdullah Bin Bishr that documents the history of the Saudi state and the wider Arabian Peninsula.
The new edition was meticulously edited using the author’s original handwritten manuscript, which the Al-Bishr family previously presented to King Salman. Researchers compared the text with other copies, clarifying terminology and adding scholarly annotations to establish an accurate primary source.
Darah’s wider program aims to enrich the Kingdom’s historical heritage by cataloging and publishing vital manuscripts. According to officials, future phases will cover works by other prominent regional historians, including Moqbel Al-Thukair and Khaled Al-Faraj, making these texts accessible to researchers and future generations.
