Iran closes Strait of Hormuz citing ‘enemy’s breach of promise’

Iran has closed the strategic Strait of Hormuz to all vessel traffic following an official announcement by its central military command on Saturday. In a statement broadcast on state television, the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters framed the immediate closure as a first step in response to recent military escalation in southern Lebanon, characterizing those actions as a breach of Tehran’s existing understandings with the United States. The military leadership warned that further measures could be planned if the situation continues, prompting international shipping operators and regional trade bodies to closely monitor the critical waterway and evaluate alternative maritime routes to ensure the continuity of global commerce.
