DUBAI — Lulu Group is preparing to launch retail operations in Sri Lanka following a meeting between Chairman M.A. Yusuff Ali and the Governor of Colombo, Hanif Yousef, in Dubai.
During a lunch hosted at Yusuff Ali’s residence, the two discussed opening Lulu hypermarkets in Colombo and other major Sri Lankan cities. Governor Yousef noted that the country’s retail market offers strong investment potential as the economy steadily moves past recent challenges.

Yusuff Ali confirmed that a senior executive team from the UAE-based retail giant will soon visit Sri Lanka to evaluate locations and finalize the expansion plans. The move will build on Lulu’s existing infrastructure in the country, where it currently operates a food processing and logistics hub that exports Sri Lankan goods to its global store network.
Sharing insights from their respective corporate journeys, Governor Yousef commended the Lulu Chairman’s role in supporting regional food security and his philanthropic initiatives during global supply crises.
The high-level meeting was also attended by the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the UAE Dr. Arusha Cooray, former ambassador Udaya Indrarathna, Lulu Group Director M.A. Salim, and Lulu International Holdings Director A.V. Anand Ram.
