The Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority, in partnership with Oman Customs, officially launched an integrated logistics corridor on Sunday. The new trade link connects Sharjah’s commercial hubs—including Port Khalid—directly with major Omani seaports such as Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah via streamlined land border crossings.
For the extensive expatriate business community in the UAE and Oman, this initiative directly addresses the challenges of supply chain delays and rising overland transport costs. By utilizing the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border frontiers, the new protocol allows cargo to clear customs entirely at the land border. This removes the administrative burden of redundant inspections and multiple cargo transfers, allowing goods to move smoothly under continuous customs supervision.
By creating a faster, more predictable sea-and-land network, the corridor provides small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and freight forwarders—many of which are managed by expatriate entrepreneurs—with flexible, cost-effective shipping alternatives. The first shipments have already begun moving between Port Khalid and Sohar Port, marking a practical upgrade for regional trade that will help local businesses keep operational costs down.
