The UAE Ministry of Interior has launched a nationwide campaign reminding residents to use the correct police number depending on the situation.
The campaign, held annually on September 9 as UAE Emergency Number Day, carries the slogan “Every Second Counts”.
Authorities are reminding the public that 999 is for emergencies requiring immediate police intervention, while 901 is available for general enquiries and non-emergency police services.
The campaign is being carried out in cooperation with Dubai Police and police headquarters across the UAE.
The ministry said the distinction is important because keeping emergency lines free allows police to respond more quickly when lives or property are at immediate risk.
The awareness campaign is being delivered in several languages to reach the UAE’s diverse population.
For residents, the message is straightforward: if immediate police intervention is required, call 999. For routine enquiries or non-emergency matters, use 901 instead.
