A commercial tanker was attacked while transiting the strategic Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, according to a security alert issued by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center. The maritime monitoring agency stated that the vessel was hit by an “unknown projectile,” which subsequently ignited a fire on board the ship.
While the full extent of the structural damage to the vessel remains undetermined, the UKMTO confirmed that all crew members are safe and accounted for following the strike. The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in the vital maritime chokepoint, a critical artery for global commercial shipping and energy supplies.
