Kuwait’s cabinet has approved a draft law amending the country’s citizenship regulations, stripping naturalised citizens of the right to vote, run for office, or be appointed to any elected body.
Announced on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the decree also expands the grounds for revoking citizenship if a person fraudulently adds individuals who are not their descendants to their citizenship file. The latest measures align with Kuwait’s sweeping review of nationality files, which led to the revocation of nearly 50,000 citizenships in 2025.
