Oman implements modern digital laws and expands international energy partnerships

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued two pivotal Royal Decrees to modernize the Sultanate’s legislative and judicial architectures. Royal Decree No. 61/2026 officially establishes a comprehensive new Cybercrime Law to secure the nation’s digital ecosystem and information technology networks against emerging vulnerabilities. Concurrently, Royal Decree No. 62/2026 institutes strategic amendments to the Criminal Procedure Law to streamline corporate and judicial processing timelines. In the economic sector, Oman’s integrated global energy group, OQ, has expanded its cross-border operations by signing a major exploration and production Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) to review offshore energy blocks. These developments follow international indexes ranking Oman as the second safest nation globally for 2026, anchoring its position as a preferred hub for trade and tourism.
