The Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen launched ballistic missiles and drones toward Saudi Arabia’s southern region, targeting the international airport in Abha. The Saudi-led military coalition confirmed the interception of the missiles, noting they were launched by the Houthi militia toward civilian areas. This major escalation effectively shatters a four-year truce between the two sides.
The strikes follow Houthi accusations that Saudi jets bombed Sanaa International Airport to prevent an Iranian plane from landing. The internationally recognized Yemeni government claimed responsibility for the Sanaa strike, citing violations of Yemeni sovereignty.
