Fitch warns of GCC rating risks amid ongoing Strait of Hormuz blockade

Ratings agency Fitch has warned that an extended blockade of the Strait of Hormuz through 2027 could severely pressure sovereign credit ratings across the GCC.

In a report released on September 3, 2026, Fitch noted that Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain are the most exposed to the disruptions, as they lack alternative export routes to bypass the vital maritime bottleneck.
