Qatari Prime Minister visits Tehran for regional de-escalation talks

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, traveled to Tehran on August 27, 2026, to engage in mediation talks with Iranian officials.

The discussions are heavily focused on regional de-escalation and establishing conditions for dialogue between Iran and the United States. A primary agenda item is the effort to restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to the conditions prior to February 28.
