In a sweeping policy adjustment, Qatar has officially opened its national service military program to eligible expatriate residents born in the country or born to Qatari mothers. The Ministry of Defense announced that non-Qatari participants will receive robust financial incentives of up to $1,920 (QAR 7,000) per month during their service period. Crucially for the long-term expat population, successful completion of the program opens up priority recruitment pipelines into the Qatar Armed Forces alongside a direct administrative pathway to secure coveted permanent residency status. Parallel to this demographic integration, Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality has unveiled a major overhaul of residential villa building codes. The new rules allow for higher construction limits and the addition of independent family suites within private plots, a move real estate analysts say will significantly expand long-term housing options for expatriate families and property investors across Doha.
