US and Iran delegations head to Qatar for potential talks amid contradicting statements on direct meetings

US President Donald Trump stated that an Iranian delegation requested a meeting on Tuesday in Doha, Qatar, aiming to address the ongoing conflict and the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. US envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner are reportedly traveling to Doha this week for high-level discussions.

Despite Washington’s assertions, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman explicitly denied any planned direct sit-down negotiations with the American delegation, though he confirmed Iranian experts are also traveling to Doha. The diplomatic push in Qatar comes shortly after renewed clashes in the Gulf, underscoring the fragile nature of the preliminary agreements to secure commercial shipping lanes.
