Iran plans maritime exclusion zone near Strait of Hormuz after US strikes on tankers

Iran is planning a maritime ‘exclusion zone’ near the Strait of Hormuz aimed at vessels it believes are attempting to transit the waterway. The move threatens global shipping and energy supplies as tensions with the US escalate.

According to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the restricted area would extend from the US Navy’s existing blockade line into the Arabian Gulf, and vessels entering the zone could be placed on an Iranian sanctions list.
